I'm experiencing an issue when recording. What should I do?

As Filmic is a high processor and power-intensive application, there are a number of things to keep in mind while recording to ensure that it functions smoothly and properly:

  • Make sure your device is fully charged.
  • Make sure your iOS and Filmic Pro are updated to their latest versions, as that should provide you with the best recording experience.
  • Put your device into Airplane mode, as notifications can interrupt the recording process.
  • Enable Do Not Disturb mode (DND) ON to silence third-party notifications.
  • Silence any alarms: calendar, reminders, or clock app (which bypass DND mode)
  • Make sure your device has plenty of storage available to store your footage. We recommend at least 50% of the device be available, just in case. The app includes a handy storage indicator inside the timecode medallion at the bottom of the screen. However, if you'd like to know the exact amount of available storage and which apps are taking up the most space, you're welcome to learn more about how to check available space on iOS.
  • Force close any apps running in the background. Any extra processes can interfere with Filmic.

Some additional tips for new filmmakers:

  • Set white balance to lock on record (orange setting)
  • Set & lock focus (square)
  • Set & lock exposure (circle)
    Better to underexpose versus overexpose
  • Stabilize the camera (monopod, mini-tripod, or stable grip)
  • Clean your lens!
