Memory Mic and Filmic Pro Audio Settings

The Sennheiser Memory Mic is a powerful addition to the mobile creative's toolbox. It offers full-quality 48.0 kHz, 16-bit, WAV format audio that can be recorded wirelessly at long distances.

The Memory Mic integrates seamlessly with Filmic Pro and allows you to pair your Memory Mic with the app, start a video recording in Filmic Pro, and simultaneously start the audio recording on the Memory Mic. Once your video is completed, you can bring the Memory Mic back in range of your Filmic Pro device and start the file transfer and syncing process to overlay your Memory Mic audio right over the Filmic Pro video.

Memory Mic records using a fixed audio format and sampling rate that cannot be modified from Filmic Pro. So why are you allowed to edit so many audio settings in Filmic Pro? All of the highlighted settings are at your disposal to adjust, but these will not be used by Memory Mic, so why adjust them?

The answer is this: Did you know that another powerful feature of this integration is that it allows you to capture a second audio track on Filmic Pro while using a Memory Mic? While recording with Memory Mic, Filmic Pro will also record onboard audio using the settings you have specified in the audio section of the settings menu.

So, if you have a shoot that requires dual-track audio, you can set up the Filmic Pro onboard audio via these settings. (Note: the onboard microphone will automatically default to either the front or the rear, depending on which camera you are using.)

Once you sync your Memory Mic audio to Filmic Pro, it will overlay that audio. To find your original audio, you can use iTunes File Sharing or the Files app on your device to browse your Filmic Pro files. For the given clip, you'll see your clip's file name followed by an extension to indicate the 'original' audio, meaning that which was recorded on Filmic Pro prior to being overlaid with the Memory Mic audio.
