Filmic Pro will support all capture formats (codecs) made available to us by the operating system. Please bear in mind that some formats are not available on all devices/resolutions.
On iOS the following capture formats are available under the Settings > Video menu, in the Encoding tab, by tapping on the format button on the right of the resolution:
- 8-bit in either H.264 or HEVC: 8-bit SDR offers near universal compatibility across a broad spectrum of endpoints. This format is a favorable compromise between the opposed priorities of compactness and image fidelity.
- 10-bit SDR: 10-bit SDR offers greater shadow detail, superior color representation and natural gradation. It is optimized for use with HLG and LogV3 gamma curves.
- ProRes 709: This format delivers VBR 4:2:2. The encoding and color transform coefficients are BT.709. This format should be use if maximal NLE and playback compatibility is desired.
- ProRes 2020: This format delivers VBR 4:2:2. The transfer function is BT2100 HLG. The Color Primaries and YCbCr are BT.2020. This format should be used if HDR or wide-gamut footage is an end point.
- Dolby Vision HDR: Dolby Vision HDR encodes video with a wider color gamut, and enhanced tonality that requires a high dynamic display to consume. This format may not be interpreted correctly on some SDR monitors.
On Android the following capture formats are available under the Settings > Resolution menu:
